Exporting coffee in Vietnam was still considered the “backbone industry” in the past years. It contributes largely to the total exports of Vietnam’s agricultural products. However, with the lack of major brands, the lack of processing production standards to meet the requirements in the importing countries are the major barriers in the export of coffee in Vietnam. That accidentally causes us to waste the abundant potential of coffee.
Quantity of Coffee in Viet Nam is extremely abundant and cornucopia. Coffee in Vietnam has two main categories Robusta and Arabica, of which Robusta is accounting for the largest proportion.
Robusta Coffee is grown mainly in Daklak, Lam Dong, Đak Nong and Gia Lai. So the quantity here is very high and keeps the key role in business, manufacturing and export processing.
Export standard of coffee based on a lot of factors and is issued clearly by the legislation.
How to evaluate exported coffee standards
The quality of the coffee (unroasted Café) classified according to TCNV 4193:2001 (Third revision), is issued and compiled by the standard Technical Board TCVN/TC/F16 “Coffee and coffee products”. General Department of Standards of Measurement Quality recommendations and promulgated by Ministry of Science, Technology and the environment.
Test method Export coffee Viet Nam:
Sampling: According to TCVN 5702-1993
Determination of the proportion of particles affected by insects: according to TCVN 6601:2000 (ISO 6667:1985)
Particle size Determination: According to TCVN 4807:2001 (ISO 4150:1991)
Basically, each batch of coffee needs to be taken in the sample quantity – Different sample volumes.
Example: Lot 5 bag Café needs to get 1 sample at each bag. However, Lot 100 bag of coffee need only get 10 samples.
After sampling we conduct analysis – define Defective particles, particles defects. Each type of error has 1 private score.
From which to rank the quality of coffee in special class, Division 1.2 2.3.
Beside error identification, we categorized based on the size of the sieve hole. Samples will be on the sieve and consider the rate to be categorized.
What is first-grade export coffee in Viet Nam?
First-grade export coffee must simultaneously meet standard as minimum 90% on sieve 18, humidity 12%,black and broken coffee beans<0.1%
Means the highest standard, the most beautiful particle .
Why did we need to pick up by hand again for export coffee?
First-grade export coffee follow to highest standard. However, They still exist pesting coffee beans. And these particles of error seriously affect a cup of perfect coffee.
Broken Coffee beans when roasting is prone to burning because of structure imperfections. It’s produces an cup of imperfect espresso coffee with client.
